The NAIDOC Perth Awards recognise and acknowledge outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, organisations and businesses who have made a significant contribution to our community in Perth.

The NAIDOC Perth Awards will be held on Friday 25th of June at the Crown Burswood.

The 2021 NAIDOC Perth Awards is proudly sponsored by naming sponsor Equity Trustees.

The Awards Night is a semi-formal event held at the Crown Burswood. Award winners will be announced and presented with trophies on the evening.

The 2021 NAIDOC Perth Awards will present 13 awards across the following categories

Outstanding Achievement

This prestigious award is open to an individual who has contributed significantly to the development and empowerment of Perth’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities over a five year period or more. The chosen recipient will have demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, empowerment and cultural integrity.

NAIDOC Theme Award: 2021 Heal Country

This Award is open to individuals, groups and organisations who best signifies the representation of the 2021 NAIDOC Theme.

Female Elder of the Year

This Award is open to females who are considered to be Elders within their family or community. No age restrictions have been set for this award. Elders who are positive role models who have contributed to their families or communities over a number of years will be looked upon favourably

Male Elder of the Year

This Award is open to males who are considered to be Elders within their family or community. No age restrictions have been set for this award. Elders who are positive role models who have contributed to their families or communities over a number of years will be looked upon favourably.

 

Youth of the Year (<25)

This prestigious award is open to an individual under the age of 25 years who has contributed significantly to the development and empowerment of Perth’s Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander youth and services over a five (5) year period or more. The chosen recipient will have demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, empowerment and cultural integrity.

Education Achievement of the Year

Includes students at Secondary (High School) and Tertiary (TAFE or University) institutions as well as those in Vocational Education and Training (VET) Programs. The Award applies to students who are currently studying or who have completed their studies.

Artist of the Year

This Award is open to visual or performing Artists such as Painters, Designers, Photographers and Film makers, Sculptors, Dancers, Musicians, Singers, Actors, etc. Open to individuals and groups.

Carer of the Year

This Award is open to individuals who are Carers in a paid or voluntary capacity. This includes caring for the elderly, sick, disabled, or their own or other people’s children (e.g. foster children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, siblings, children and young people in hostels or family group homes)

Community Person of the Year

This Award is open to people who have made a significant contribution to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of Perth. Voluntary services will be looked upon favourably.

Sportsperson of the Year

This Award is open to individuals who have in the past or are currently excelling in a particular field of sport from a wide range of sports including all ball sports, water sports, athletics, dance, martial arts/combat and any other competitive sports as deemed suitable.

Program of the Year

This Award is open to Not-for-profit organisations that deliver quality Programs to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and is based in the Perth metropolitan area.

Business of the Year

This Award is open to successful businesses that are at least 50% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owned and based in the Perth metropolitan area. Examples include (but not limited to) Indigenous Printing, Clothing/attire, Trade, Tourism, Science& Technology, etc.

 Empowerment Award

Specifically selected from all applications by the NAIDOC Perth Committee.
